Five Super League clubs set to try and sign England star Tom Johnstone

Tom Johnstone

England international Tom Johnstone is reportedly set to leave Catalans Dragons which will make him one of the most highly sought after free agents.

The winger, who has been truly impressive since joining the Dragons, is reportedly set to leave the French club at the end of the 2024 and ahead of the 2025 campaign.

There will be a queue of clubs from both sides of the world likely interested in the winger but who are the clubs who are most likely to sign the England international who appears to have gotten over the injury problems that have dominated his early career.

Wakefield Trinity

Wakefield have already been linked with what seems like a sensational swoop for Johnstone by Rugby League Live. The West Yorkshire club would have some advantages over their rivals however given he would not fully count on the cap having been produced by their academy meaning they could pay him more than any other club and under new owner Matt Ellis have the power to do so.

Leeds Rhinos

If Johnstone is wanting to return to West Yorkshire, a move to his boyhood club Leeds Rhinos would make a lot of sense. With David Fusitu’a out of contract at the end of the year as well, a move for Johnstone would make huge sense for the Rhinos. It would be a dream come true as well for Johnstone. Leeds have tried to sign him in the past.

Warrington Wolves

As have the Warrington Wolves. Notoriously the league’s big spenders, a move for Johnstone would be a statement signing. The appeal of working with Sam Burgess is undoubtedly a selling point as well for the Wire.

Hull KR

The unique selling point that Hull KR could offer Johnstone is reuniting with some former teammates like James Batchelor and Jai Whitbread. The Robins have been making some outstanding signings but many Hull KR fans want another winger especially with Ryan Hall’s future up in the air.

Hull FC

Hull FC are no strangers to spending big money either and to compete with their city rivals a move for Johnstone would be a must. They too could do with a winger after the loss of Adam Swift. They will likely be interested.
