Wakefield Trinity complete another statement signing for 2024

Wakefield Trinity have announced the signing of 23 year old prop/loose forward Luke Bain on a two year deal.

Luke was born in Hampshire USA, he qualified to represent Scotland in the 2021 World Cup due to Scottish heritage on his father’s side. A strong hard running forward with an uncompromising defensive technique he first learned his rugby league skills as a youngster after the family moved to Bathurst, Australia.

Luke was a part of the strong Parramatta Eels squad in 2022. Last season moving to Brisbane Tigers in the Queensland Cup. Now standing at 6’2” and weighing in at 100 KGs Bain will bring a powerful presence to the Trinity forward pack as we look forward to a successful 2024 season.

Head Coach, Daryl Powell said: ‘Luke is a great addition to our squad for 2024. He is quick and athletic with a great offload. He is also a real hard working defender which what we aim to build our game in next season. Everyone we asked our him came up with quality replies. I look forward to working with Luke in the next 2 years.’

Luke said: ‘I’m very grateful to be given the opportunity to play at Wakefield. After hearing the ambitions of the club, I knew it was something I wanted be apart of. I think the club is heading in a really positive direction and I can’t wait to contribute to the future success.’

The club have also announced that hugely talented 18-year-old hooker Harvey Smith has signed a new deal with the club. Harvey has risen quickly through the scholarship and academy system at Belle Vue.

In July of this year, he made his International debut for England Academy in their away fixture in the South of France.

This talented prospect, whilst still a student at Brigshaw High School, made his first-team debut for Trinity against Hull KR in the final game of the 2023 season.

Head Coach, Daryl Powell said: ‘Harvey is a talented young hooker who has graduated through the system and has a big future. He made his debut last year and handled himself well. He’s an impressive young man and alongside the retention of Oliver Pratt puts out a great message around the growth of young players at our club.’
