Uproar as Super League venue given one star hygiene rating

Super League trophy

There has been recent uproar at Old Trafford, the home of the Super League Grand Final, after the stadium lost its five star food hygiene rating and was dropped down to a one star rating.

This came after an incident when some raw chicken was served. Manchester United have responded to the news and stated that this was an isolated incident.

The club are now working towards regaining their five star rating which they had held for eight years and will likely have it back in time for the 2024 Grand Final so rugby league fans should have no cause for concern.

“MUFC has taken this incident very seriously and wants to reassure our valued fans and customers that we maintain the highest culinary standards,” the club stated.

“The club is proud of the high standards and the five-star food hygiene record which had been awarded to us for the past eight years.

“Everyone at the club is determined to regain our five-star food hygiene status as quickly as possible.”

The club also have a new ownership model in place as they announced on Christmas Eve:

“Manchester United announced today that it has entered into an agreement under which Chairman of INEOS, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, will acquire 25 per cent of Manchester United’s Class B shares and up to 25 per cent of Manchester United’s Class A shares and provide an additional $300 million intended to enable future investment into Old Trafford.

“As part of the transaction, INEOS has accepted a request by the Board to be delegated responsibility for the management of the Club’s football operations. This will include all aspects of the men’s and women’s football operations and Academies, alongside two seats on the Manchester United PLC board and the Manchester United Football Club boards.

“The joint ambition is to create a world-class football operation building on the Club’s many existing strengths, including the successful off-pitch performance that it continues to enjoy.”

This is unlikely to impact the Grand Final as well as the new ownership model still leaves the Glazers with control so it is unlikely that their stance on the Grand Final being held there will change as the deal with Old Trafford draws to its expiry. Serious About Rugby League previously reported that it was likely that the Grand Final will remain at the home of the 13-time Premier League winners.
