Update on Super League star’s future as he battles back from injury

With it being May, there is a lot of talk at the moment about recruitment and retention.

This is because players in the final year of their deals can look at options at other clubs and naturally means that clubs themselves can look to secure signings for the 2024 season.

There have already been plenty of reports about players’ futures going into the 2024 season and the latest involves a top fullback.

Jamie Shaul should be regarded as a Hull FC legend after his involvement in the club’s back to back Challenge Cup wins but injuries and the decision to move Jake Connor to fullback made by former coach Brett Hodgson.

Last year he impressed on loan at Wakefield Trinity and was set to make the permanent switch in 2023 but with the appointment of Mark Applegarth at Belle Vue saw a change in focus in terms of recruitment with the West Yorkshire side turning to forwards and allowing Shaul to remain at Hull, a decision they likely regretted when Max Jowitt picked up an injury.

Shaul hasn’t featured much for Hull this year due to injuries either side of his Hull derby appearance.

He has added versatility to his game in the last 12 months playing on the wing at times and he is to stay at Hull that will be key given that Tex Hoy has been given the number one shirt in 2023 whilst Davy Litten has come into the fullback role and has more than impressed in the role.

So what does the future old for Shaul?

Well Serious About Rugby League understands that any decision on his future is currently on hold as he focuses on getting back from injury.

Further to this, it is understood that he should be back in full team training next week which is a big boost for the fullback and means that he can begin to consider his future in the coming weeks.
