Uncertainty remains over when key Super League fixture will be played

Most clubs are looking forward to an international break at the end of this month but Huddersfield Giants can’t yet look ahead to that.

This is because Ian Watson has confirmed there has been no confirmation over when their Round One clash with St Helens, which was postponed as the Saints won the World Club Challenge that weekend against Penrith Panthers, will be rescheduled acknowledging it could be over that weekend as England take on France.

“We’re still waiting to find out whether we’re definitely having that time off. We’ve had no confirmation yet when and where we’re playing St Helens to be fair,” Watson said.

“You wouldn’t think that would be in the international week but we’ve not been told that we are playing, but we’ve also not been told when that game might be.

“At the moment we’re just focusing on this next game and then we can take care of the game after that, then it’ll be the international break and there will be some players.

“Like I say with the niggles and the injuries we’ll have to look at that when we get there. You don’t want anyone to be missing international football but we’ve got to do the right thing for Huddersfield as well as that individual player.

Idea of playing Saints at end of month- won’t have a spare weekend if they both get to CC final: “That’d be nice, if it means we get there then we’ll play them in the next couple of weeks.

“We’ll wait till we hear from the RFL on when they say when we’ll play but I should think that there will be St Helens players in the England squad and fingers crossed there might be a couple of Huddersfield players in there for recognition of what they’ve done.”
