Two Challenge Cup games will be shown on by Viaplay

It has been confirmed that two of the Challenge Cup Round Six games will be shown on Viaplay Sports.

Viaplay, previously known as Premier Sports, returned to the sport of rugby league last year signing a two year deal to predominately show the Championship.

However, as part of the deal they agreed to show games in the Challenge Cup in the Round Six stage, which is when Super League clubs enter the competition, and in the quarter-finals.

Last season they showed Wigan Warriors’ first game on the road to winning a record 20th Challenge Cup as they defeat Salford Red Devils.

They also showed a brilliant quarter-final meeting between Hull KR and Castleford Tigers as Hull KR booked their place in their first Challenge Cup semi-final since 2015.

It has now been confirmed that two of Round Six games will be shown by Viaplay.

As yet, details of those games haven’t been confirmed but we know that it won’t be Leeds Rhinos vs Wigan Warriors – as expected – and Castleford Tigers vs Hull FC which have both been confirmed as being shown by the BBC, the predominate channel for rugby league’s oldest and most prestigious competition.

Viaplay’s deal with rugby league, like the deals with Sky Sports and Channel 4, expires at the end of this year so it makes the success of these games key.

Meanwhile, BBC’s contract expires in 2024.
