Tonga announces public holiday to celebrate win over Australia

The Prime Minister of  Tonga Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa has announced that Friday the 15th of November will be a public holiday in celebration of Tonga’s upset victory over the Australian Kangaroos.

The Prime Minister has referred to the side as the “Winning Warriors” in a statement released on Wednesday, which also revealed the Tongan King King Tupou VI’s admiration for the side and the plan for the public holiday.

The Tongan players will be present in Tonga on the day and will receive an official reception from the Tongan civilians.

The National team has in the past met with the Tongan King two years ago, with the side having a seemingly strong bond with the nation and the Royal Family.
