Tom Burgess set for Super League move – Three clubs who could sign him

In recent times we have seen Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves all linked with a move for Tom Burgess but only one club made an official move for Burgess,

That was the Wigan Warriors with Burgess himself confirming that he turned down a move to the DW Stadium akin to his twin brother George Burgess.

This was done to stay at South Sydney Rabbitohs and in 2023 he agreed a one year extension to stay at the club until the end of the the 2024 season. However this means that he is now available to Super League clubs.

This is because the rules in the NRL allow clubs from Australia and England to negotiate with clubs out of contract the following season from November 1st of the previous year. So, with Burgess out of contact in 2024, clubs have been able to negotiate with him since November 1st.

It is widely believed that Burgess will finish his career in the UK at a Super League club but which clubs are likely to sign him?

Leeds Rhinos

In the past, Burgess has been open about wanting a move to Leeds being a fan growing up of the Headingley club. Leeds have shown their ambition in recent times signing the likes of Brodie Croft and Andy Ackers and the Rhinos could very well add to that list of major signings as they gun for a big few seasons under Rohan Smith.

Warrington Wolves

This is one of the most likely destinations for Tom Burgess. This is because his brother Sam is now Head coach at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. Of course, they are a club who never appear afraid to spend big money on new signings and are frequently there to sign the biggest British NRL stars such as George Williams. They have routinely signed the biggest names and this would be another.

Hull KR

Hull KR have made a number of major signings since Willie Peters took charge and this would be right up their street as they look to become genuine title contenders in 2024 and beyond. Thus, signing Burgess would be another statement signings and have them well and truly in the mix.
