Three clubs who could try and sign Harry Newman including Super League giants

Leeds Rhinos star Harry Newman with a Grannd Final runners-up medal.

Leeds Rhinos centre Harry Newman has again been linked with a move away from Headingley.

The Rhinos had to handle this speculation back in 2021 when there was apparent NRL and Rugby Union interest in the centre before Leeds gave their fans the Christmas present of Newman signing a new deal in December ahead of 2022.

However, in 2024 this contract expires leaving him open to other clubs for 2025. Throughout this year some Sky Sports pundits have suggested that Leeds could part company with the centre after some incidents in 2023 which was scoffed at by Rohan Smith.

But when he made his England debut, Newman appeared on NRL clubs’ radars as per the Daily Telegraph and now Wide World of Sports have reported that Super League clubs, NRL clubs and rugby union clubs are all interested in the centre.

Serious About Rugby League has revealed today [Thursday December 7th] that a move by Leeds to retain Harry Newman is already in progress but which clubs could be those that want to sign him?

We have taken a look at the potential to make a move for Newman.

Canberra Raiders

With Jarrod Croker at the end of his career at the green machine, a move for Harry Newman makes a lot of sense. The club have had huge success in signing British players such as Elliott whitehead, Josh Hodgson, Ryan Sutton, John Bateman, George Williams and most recently Morgan Smithies.

Brisbane Broncos

Brisbane know how good English centres can be having had Herbie Farnworth in their squad over recent years to great success. He has now left the club for The Dolphins so signing Newman who could be the next great British centre in the NRL would be sensible.

St Helens

It is known that St Helens have left the number three jersey vacant ahead of the 2024 season with a view to sign a centre ahead of the new season. Could they hold out even longer and try and snap up Newman? They have his former teammate Konrad Hurrell in the side already so have gone to this well before. They are likely the Super League club interested in the centre that has been reported.
