Hull FC fans turned up to watch their side play at home for the last time in the 2023 Super League season and sadly they weren’t rewarded with a win, but instead a hammering at the hands of Huddersfield Giants with Tony Smith’s side falling to a 52-20 defeat.
Inflated scorelines against FC have been somewhat common over the past few years but they had restricted the embarrassing defeats to just two this season, the 40-0 derby day defeat and a 60-14 loss to Salford in round four.
Unfortunately for FC fans all three of those results have come at home and today’s defeat marked a fifth loss on the spin and condemned the side to finishing tenth in Super League, their worst finish since 2014.
Understandably fans were a mixture of frustrated, furious and upset with many taking to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to voice their opinions.
One fan labelled the side the “most unprofessional professional club” before stating: “Personal pride, integrity, and work ethic does not even register on the Richter scale with most of these full time professional paid “athletes” no respect for the fans.”
Another chose to look on the bright side, referencing the retiring Scott Taylor’s try.
She tweeted: “Worth going just to see Scotty’s try…he’ll always be “one of our own” .
The word “disgraceful” was banded about by a number of other fans.
Hull FC are a team that can’t be saved according to another fan who claimed: “Tony Smith has turned some awful teams around. But he needs a miracle with us.”
Their poor form towards the end of seasons was also noted, with the stats lad out by @TrylineUK suggesting the mentality of the club is wayward.
“2018: Lost last 11 league matches
“2019: Won 1 of final 7 matches
“2020: Won 6 of final 9 league matches
“2021: Won 1 of final 10 matches
“2022: Won 2 of final 9 matches
“2023: Won 1 of last 7 matches
“Different players and coach, same old. If I was a Hull FC fan, I’d be sick of it.”
The attitude was again questioned by others, claiming: “Attitude of this team stinks. Not one player wants to stick a shoulder in. Play for your fans ffs.”
