The five biggest Super League questions as we start 2023

Now that 2023 is finally here, the excitement for the new Super League season is going to overdrive.

So, here are the five biggest questions going into the new Super League season.

Who is best placed to dethrone St Helens?

Super League is beginning to become like the competition that gave birth to the summer era. One of the driving forces behind the switch to summer rugby, a salary capped sport and Super League was of course the dominance of Wigan. Now St Helens are doing the same and are overwhelming favourites for Grand Final glory in 2023 which would make it five titles in a row. It is Wigan Warriors, and then Huddersfield Giants, you would say are the teams best placed to dethrone them. Leeds Rhinos and Salford Red Devils could be considered dark horses.

How good are Leigh Leopards?

Leigh were exceptional last year in the Championship, so good in fact they had people suggesting they would finish in the top four of Super League. There have been some ins and outs but if anything they look even stronger. Can they subsequently push for a play-off spot in 2023?

Which Hull team will finish higher?

Both Hull teams have just cause to be optimistic going into 2023. They both have exciting new coaches and some exciting new signings. Both will aim for play-off rugby in 2023 but with the quality of the league only one may make it.

How will Jake Connor do back at Huddersfield Giants?

Back at Huddersfield in 2023 after six years away, will Jake Connor be a success back in the claret and gold? Another question would be where will he play. He has the number one shirt for the new season but Tui Lolohea is said to be their first choice fullback. It will be interesting to see how they set up.

Will Warrington Wolves’ signings pay off?

The Daryl Powell era at the Halliwell Jones stadium is well and truly here you feel now that he has made his signings. The question is, will those signings take Warrington back to the top four where they were a mainstay?
