Super League star could have played final game as exit looms

There are some great English wingers, Ash Handley at Leeds Rhinos, Liam Marshall at Wigan Warriors, Josh Thewlis and Matty Ashton at Warrington Wolves, Ryan Hall at Hull KR, Adam Swift has rediscovered his best form at Hull FC this year and of course there’s the brilliant Tommy Makinson and Tom Johnstone.

Yes of course there is the brilliant Dom Young down under but it is amazing how many great English wingers are in Super League right now.

One of them is at Huddersfield Giants in the shape of Jermaine McGillvary who faces an uncertain future.

He could very well have played his last game for the club he has made his name at after a recent injury.

Recently, Ian Watson explained that the negotiations with him “could go down to the wire.”

“Yeah, I think so mate. The conversation with everyone was a real honest and open conversation. Just to say the amount of games that he’s been missing, the injuries he’s been picking up,” he said.

“You never know, but I tell you, you look at his performance last week. You’re signing him all day long on the back of that performance.

“I think that’s for Jez to just keep turning out them kind of performances, play like that and then everything else takes care of itself. I’ve said it a number of times before, you play well and it’s all in your own control.

“If you’re not playing so well then obviously it’s about opinions and obviously selections and choices that other people have to make around you.”

Meanwhile, Watson confirmed that Leroy Cudjoe would certainly be at the club in 2024.

“Yeah, well obviously there’s a break after this so hopefully like I say we do our job and then the club can get down and start kind of looking at a couple of them but hopefully Leroy gets sorted out pretty quickly mate.

“Leroy will be here next year with us, he’s a great bloke, he’s great for the group, he’s a great character.”

McGillvary deserves to have a hero’s send off rather than have his time there end with injury
