Super League Injury News: Title challengers suffer massive blow

This weekend, Super League clubs participated in the Betfred Challenge Cup as the road to Wembley heated up with some seismic all Super League clashes in the Challenge Cup whilst four Super League sides took on Championship sides.

The action started on Friday night on BBC iPlayer as the two most successful sides in Super League history collided in the shape of Leeds Rhinos and St Helens.

The Saints dominated the game but Leeds did give themselves some hope with a Harry Newman intercept in the first half but it was the Saints’ game.

Meanwhile, Champions Wigan Warriors found themselves behind against Sheffield Eagles in a repeat of the historic 1998 Challenge Cup Final. However, thanks to Bevan French they stormed to victory.

Elsewhere on Friday night, Hull KR notched a 40-0 win over the Salford Red Devils as they look to return to Wembley.

On Saturday, Leigh Leopards and Castleford Tigers both put away valiant Championship sides in the shape of Featherstone Rovers and Batley Bulldogs respectively.

Hull FC meanwhile suffered the biggest defeat of the weekend against Huddersfield Giants conceding 50 points before Sunday saw Halifax Panthers beaten by Catalans Dragons.

This sets up the draw at the end of Monday which will determine the Challenge Cup quarter-finals with only Super League sides remaining.

A massive reward for the winners but did it come at a cost on the injury front?

In and amongst the Challenge Cup action there were some injury worries. St Helens were without Lewis Dodd for the game but hope he and Tommy Makinson will be back for the derby.

Teammate Morgan Knowles picked up a knock on the arm but the biggest knock was for Oliver Gildart at Hull KR.

The Super League title challengers saw their star centre hospitalised but fortunately he is now okay but will miss the game against Hull FC.

Meanwhile, Keanan Brand and Liam Tindall both suffered leg injuries on Saturday.
