Super League Disciplinary: Star man set for ban suggests Sky Sports pundit

Salford Red Devils vs Leeds Rhinos

Today the match review panel will review incidents from Super League Round Five in the latest chapter of the ongoing Super League disciplinary saga.

One incident that may be looked at could be an incident involving Salford Red Devils star Marc Sneyd after their defeat to Super League Champions the Wigan Warriors.

Sneyd was involved in a tackle where replays seemed to suggest he made contact with the head of Patrick Mago.

Mago went off for a Head Injury Assessment but passed so that he could return to the field.

However, on Sky Sports Sam Tomkins felt that the incident would have been carded earlier in the season as the pundits agreed the Super League is now being refereed differently.

Tomkins said: “I don’t think there’s any malice in it, but was if this round one or two of 2024, he’d be on a yellow card or potentially a red card there, so it certainly is being refereed differently.”

Carney added: “Yeah, if you put that one next to the red card for the Fa’amanu Brown challenge, it is being refereed differently.”

Super League Disciplinary: star set for ban?

That being said, fellow Sky Sports pundit felt like the Super League Disciplinary Match Review Panel might take action against Sneyd which could see him banned for the Challenge Cup clash against Hull KR: “But we have to celebrate the fact that the referees have recognized it was ugly the first few weeks to change things. I don’t believe, I think that might well get pulled up in the match review panel and that’s what it’s there for. But Marc Sneyd deserves to still be on the pitch.

Sam Tomkins added: “Yeah, that’s exactly it. There’s no malice in it. He’s not trying to do anything, you know, anything out of the ordinary. He’s got into making that, on a big man, he’s got it slightly wrong. People don’t deserve to get cards for that.”

Then Brian Carney joked: “You’ve instigated change with your on air meltdown Jon Wilkin.” This of course is in relation to the comments he made after the aforementioned Brown red card in Round Two of Super League.
