Super League champions Wigan Warriors tie down another star player highlighting huge pulling power

Wigan Warriors are currently compiling a squad that is one of the best that Super League has seen and they’re also ensuring it remains together, handing out a second four-year deal in two days.

Yesterday saw the club hand full-back Jai Field a contract keeping him with the club until 2027 and now they’ve done the same with Lebanese winger Abbas Miski.

Miski had an incredible season in 2023 as he ended up as Super League’s top try scorer as part of the Warriors’ lethal right edge, and he’s now set to terrorise Super League defences for another four years.

The club confirmed the news via statement which read: “Wigan Warriors winger Abbas Miski has signed a new four-year deal with Wigan to keep him at the Club until the end of the 2027 season.

“The Lebanese international has lit up the Betfred Super League in 2023 finishing the regular campaign as joint top scorer with 28 tries in all competitions. Since his first game in 2023 in round 6, his tally includes five tries against Castleford Tigers recently, a four-try haul against Hull KR and two further hat-tricks against Catalans Dragons and Leigh Leopards.

“Miski also collected the Wigan Warriors 2023 Players’ Player of the Year and Player of the Year awards at the Club’s Gala Dinner.”

Chief Executive, Kris Radlinski said: “Abbas is an incredibly popular member of the team. Unassuming, hard working and a great teammate. I remember the press release when we signed him and I had a hunch that he would become a cult hero at the Club and that has proven to be the case. Wigan fans want players who give everything for the shirt and Abbas falls into that category.“

Warriors Head Coach Matt Peet added: “I’m sure everyone associated with the Club is as happy as me to see Abbas extend his time with us.

“He has proved himself to be an outstanding member of this Club, both on and off the field. His performances on the wing this year have been first class.”

On his new deal, Miski said: “Wigan has felt like home since the moment I arrived at the Club, so I’m happy to be keeping it that way for another four years.”

It ticks off another key player that the club have tied down long term after deals done for Harry Smith and Jai Field already, whilst their recruitment has seen them strengthen immensely.

England international Luke Thompson has been brought in, former Leeds Rhinos captain Kruise Leeming and last year’s standout Catalans Dragons player Adam Keighran who will replace Toby King in the centres.

Wigan look like they’ll be a force for a very long time.
