Storm and Tigers to make history with the NRL’s first loan deal

Melbourne Storm and Wests Tigers are currently negotiating the league’s first ever loan deal, which will see youngsters Harry Grant and Paul Momirovski trade clubs for the 2020 season.

According to NRL.com, Tigers centre Momirovski is set to arrive in Melbourne within the next week as they look to add depth to their outside backs following the off-season departures of both Will Chambers and Curtis Scott.

The 23-year old’s contract with the Tigers ends in 2020, but with a negotiation surrounding a contract extension still ongoing, it is thought that the club are still keen to have him back at the end of the season.

In return, Storm will be sending hooker, Harry Grant, to concord. The 21-year old is thought to be the future successor to Cameron Smith and was named in the Intrust Super Cup’s Team of The Year last season. Grant still has three years remaining on his current Melbourne contract.

Despite the fact that the deal has been given NRL approval, neither the Storm or the Tigers are yet to make an official announcement, but are hopeful of having Grant and Momirovski switch places within the next week.

In the proposed deal, both players will have their 2020 wages paid by their current club. Tigers coach Michael Maguire is believed to be fond of the loan system thanks to his spell at English club Wigan.
