St Helens have had a somewhat challenging start to the Super League season.
After they won the World Club Challenge many expected a slight drop off but for them to soon plough ahead with their usual ruthlessness.
They lost back to back games to Leeds Rhinos and Leigh Leopards and the same happened over Easter losing to Wigan Warriors and Hull KR.
Now former Sky Sports commentator Stevo has had his say on their struggles questioning if their age is getting the better of them.
He said on the Eddie and Stevo podcast:
“Injuries have played their part, it does in every single club, but I think St Helens have sort of been hit by crucial injuries to crucial positional players.
“They’re not getting any younger and there comes a time when you’re not at your 100% and I just get the feeling that some of the older players just don’t have that ability to what they’ve shown over the last five or six seasons.
“It’s difficult though. Maybe when you win something of that nature, maybe that just pressed the pin into the balloon and it exploded a little beat.”
However, Saints did show a glimmer of their brilliance as they dismantled Warrington Wolves last week.
You don’t have to be consistent to win the Grand Final however and perhaps that is something we will see from the Saints.
