St Helens reportedly set to swoop for Super League star

Tom Davies, wearing a red Catalans Dragons quarter-zip, holds the ball pre-match at the Stade Gilbert Brutus.

Catalans Dragons winger Tom Davies may be part of a mass-exodus of players leaving Perpignan for the 2025 season and has been linked with a move to St Helens or Hull KR.

The 27-year-old has been at Catalans since 2020, and has scored 46 tries in 80 Super League games for the Dragons.

The Hull Daily Mail has reported that Hull Kingston Rovers are looking to sign him, adding to their impressive list of players that can play on the wing, including Ryan Hall, Niall Evalds and Peta Hiku.

French publication L’Indépendant is now reporting that Davies has also been approached by St Helens, amidst talk of Tommy Makinson heading to Catalans Dragons.

Catalans, St Helens or Rovers?

Tom Davies, playing for Catalans, runs towards the line, ball in hand, while playing against Hull KR.

Ultimately, the Dragons won’t want one of their key players to sign for a direct rival, and both St Helens and Hull KR may well be that by the end of the season.

Catalans might want to fight hard to keep him, but if Tommy Makinson does indeed head to Catalonia, that would certainly soften the blow.

The pull-factor of playing for one of the world’s biggest clubs could make St Helens  an enticing side for Tom Davies, but the Robins’ support at Craven Park could go a long way towards convincing him to join.

It seems that whether or not he leaves Catalans will be down to what happens with Tommy Makinson, but finances could make it out of their hands.

One of the best wingers in the league

It cannot be disputed that Tom Davies is one of the best wingers in the league and would be a perfect replacement should Tommy Makinson leave St Helens and effectively swap with Davies at Catalans Dragons.

Likewise he would be a savvy signing by Hull KR should the Robins get their hands on him to replace Ryan Hall ahead of the 2025 season with Hall in the twilight of his career.

That being said, no one can make an official move for the winger as of yet which leaves all of this in the air and also somewhat suggests that Catalans Dragons are the ones in pole position to secure his future but that might not matter if he has his heart set on a move back to the UK.
