St Helens reportedly set to move for Super League centre

St Helens have taken a massive step towards completing their business ahead of the 2024 season.

They have been able to secure the future of Jack Welsby with a major new deal until the 2027 season fending off a number of NRL clubs to keep their star man at the club ahead of the new season after talk of St George Illawarra Dragons making a move for the fullback.

But there is a lot for Saints to do. The former Super League Champions need to recruit a centre after leaving the number three shirt vacant.

They could have found their target according to Treize Mondial who have reported that the Saints are interested in former Catalans Dragons and Wakefield Trinity centre Samisoni Langi.

This would be a move that would give the Saints plenty of versatility but they are likely to focus on other targets until moving for the former Super League Grand Finalist.

The Saints for now are basking in the success of tying down Jack Welsby. Following the news, Welsby said he was just happy to get it done and sign on to stay, and he’s happy that he can just settle down now and get into Pre-Season.

Over the last few weeks Jack has been linked numerous times with a move the NRL, but he’s happy to put those rumours to bed, and he’s happy with the decision he’s made.

The quality of Super League has been growing year on year, and Jack believes that while the NRL is often seen as a massive competition, Super League can be that too, and we just have to work towards it.

With everything that the teams Jack has been a part of have won over the last few years, and Jack picking up a trophy in every single season he has played first grade, he said it’s the best 10 years of his life.

A big part of the ethos at Saints is the family mentality and the support structures, and Jack said that playing here, and when you win things with the likes of Tommy Makinson, Mark Percival, and the rest of the players, you become brothers, and he couldn’t see himself playing with anyone else, and he couldn’t leave them behind.

He also went on to thank the fans for all their support over his career so far, and said he cant wait to welcome them all back to the Totally Wicked Stadium again in 2024.
