Sky Sports confirm February schedule revealing how new TV deal will work

Sky Sports has broadcast every Grand Final

Back in October Sky Sports announced the major deal that they had secured the rights to broadcast every Super League game across the next three seasons, but now is the first time we get to see how that looks on the TV schedule.

Less than five weeks out from the start of the season Sky Sports have confirmed the broadcast channels for each of the games in the month of February giving fans an idea of how coverage across the whole season will work out.

Many had expected that with Sky showcasing all six games every week that some games would be moved onto a streaming platform potentially, fans having concerns about how easy it would be to consume all the games.

There was also the suggestion of things such as using the red button as well however Sky’s update would suggest otherwise.

The broadcasters have listed each game through the first two rounds of Super League, plus the World Club Challenge, assigning each match to a channel suggesting viewers won’t have to utilise the red button or streaming services at all.

For fans to have all their rugby league all in one place rather than have to go search for it on other platforms is a massive win for the coming season.

Super League launches on Thursday 15th February with the Hull derby assigned to the Sky Sports Main Event channel, before the three Friday night games are then assigned to Sky Sports Arena, Action and Mix.

With the inability to broadcast 3pm football games it means that Castleford Tigers versus Wigan Warriors benefits and will be shown on Sky Sports Main Event, whilst Arena will host Catalans Dragons versus Warrington Wolves.

Week two follows a similar trend, the Thursday match between Hull KR and Leeds Rhinos on Main Event, Friday utilises Arena and Action, as do Saturday and Sunday.

One surprise is that the World Club Challenge is broadcast on Sky Sports Arena, missing out on Sky Sports Main Event for it’s 8pm kick-off on Saturday 24th.
