Sky pundits highlight 50/50 call that helped cost Wakefield the game

Yesterday was a crucial game at the bottom of Super League as 11th placed Castleford Tigers hosted rivals Wakefield Trinity who went into the game 12th.

The first half belonged to the Tigers who led 12-0 at halftime after tries from Paul McShane and Greg Eden.

However, a Samisoni Langi try gave Wakefield hope and they had the better of possession for a period.

But this pressure was undercut by a Will Dagger error that led to a second Eden try that sealed it for the Tigers.

However, it came from a 50/50 call on the Dagger call with Jon Wells on Sky Sports noting that there was “all kinds of pressure” in the tackle on Dagger as he tried to get up:

“This could have been the turning point when Joe Westerman is sin binned for tripping. The momentum was with them after Morgan Smith had kicked a 40/20 but they just can’t execute and then Will Dagger knocks on.

“It has to be said he was under all kinds of pressure from Jack Broadbent but he was adjudged to have knocked on and it was a period of momentum that fizzled out.”

Brian Carney said of the moment: “You could feel the air go out of Wakefield after that.”

However, Jamie Jones-Buchanan expected better from Dagger:

“You have to play the ball better, you have to control what you can control.”
