Sean Long opens up on the signing of impressive Warrington Wolves youngster

Featherstone Rovers’ squad for 2023 is coming together nicely.

Under new boss Sean Long who left his position as Leeds Rhinos assistant coach to take on the role has made a number of impressive signings.

He brought former Wigan Warriors centre Chris Hankinson to the club and Catalans Dragons forward Mathieu Cozza.

They have since added Elijah Taylor from the Salford Red Devils as well who had been widely expected to join Wakefield Trinity.

Last night, Long’s latest signing was confirmed as the club brought in exciting Warrington Wolves youngster Riley Dean on loan.

The halfback replaces Ryley Jacks, who headed to Australia, and Morgan Smith who made the move to Wakefield for next year.

The move was likely unlocked by the fact Warrington finally signed their halfback for 2023 in the shape of Josh Drinkwater from Catalans Dragons.

The Wolves also have Leon Hayes at the club.

Speaking about bringing in Dean, Long spoke delightedly, “Riley’s a talented, hungry, young halfback with a bright future ahead of him.  We’ve got a great squad here and Riley’s a great addition to that squad.”

Meanwhile, Dean himself is excited by the move: “I’m really excited to be joining this club, I feel that it’s on the brink of something great.  From a personal perspective, the opportunity to work with one of the greatest halves in the history of the game in Sean Long is a huge opportunity, I’m really looking forward to seeing how I can progress under him.”
