Sea Eagles coming home strong as they fight for the finals

The Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles Ron Massey Cup team started the 2019 season with an 0-5 record and didn’t win their first game until round 6 against the Hills District Bulls.

Plenty of people had said that Blacktown’s season was over as it took the Sea Eagles another 10 rounds to win their second game 38-14 against Glebe Burwood Wolves, who had previously beaten the Sea Eagles in their round 2 clash 44-10.

After that win the players started to get a sense of belief that they could still make the top 8 and play finals football come September.

The last 2 weeks saw the Sea Eagles record back-to-back victories over the highly fancied Asquith Magpies 16-6 which showed how good their defence was on the day and last round victory over Penrith Brothers 28-22.

In that game front-rower Ben Mathiou scored the winning try in the 79th minute for the Sea Eagles.

This week the Sea Eagles will play Hills District Bulls in round 19 of the Ron Massey Cup at H.E Laybutt Sporting Complex Blacktown this Saturday at 4pm.

Both teams are equal 8th on 10 points each but the Bulls have a better for and against and with former NRL premiership winner Heath L’Estrange playing for the Bulls.

The Sea Eagles know it will be a tough game as they welcome back hooker Joey Tramontana from injury.

The winner of this game will be outright 8th position on the ladder with 5 rounds remaining after this weekend and sets up an interesting and exciting run home to the finals.
