Rugby League legend slams the “mess” that the sport is in

Love him or hate him, former Leeds and Hull FC legend Garry Schofield never pulls any punches.

In fact, his very column in the League Express is named “Pulling No Punches”.

But, in his column this week, Schofield has struck a chord with the mainstream view that rugby league is at a crossroads.

The ex-halfback says he hopes recent comments made by Hull chairman Adam Pearson about how the sport is failing will influence other high-profile figures to acknowledge “what a mess” that rugby league is in.

He wrote: “I’m sad and sorry to say I’m falling out of love with the game, mainly due to the way is being run from top to bottom.

“We desperately need to take a new direction, otherwise we really are on a road to nowhere.”
