Rohan Smith says star man “hasn’t had a bad game”

Leeds Rhinos head coach Rohan Smith

Yesterday Blake Austin was sensational.

The halfback created the position for the Rhinos’ first try with an innovative try kicking cross field inside his own 10 metres.

Then his bomb led to Rhyse Martin’s try as they took an 8-6 lead.

Austin’s bombs caused Catalans endless problems and had one of Super League’s greatest ever fullbacks in the shape of Sam Tomkins glad he wasn’t playing as he said on Channel 4.

In the second half, Austin’s break sparked Leeds’ comeback prior to him setting up Derrell Olpherts brilliant try.

Austin would then kick a 40/20 that led to a match winning try in a Man of the Math  display.

He and halfback Aidan Sezer have had their fair share of criticism at Leeds especially this season.

However, speaking after the game, Leeds coach was full of praise saying that Austin hasn’t had a bad game this season:

“I think Austin has been playing good steady footy most of the year.

“He hasn’t had a bad game, he has done alright and it was good to see some things open up on the back of his play today.

“As a group I thought we were flowing quite well in attack and we were right in there with the energy battle and that gives your halves a chance.”
