Rohan Smith reveals Leeds Rhinos are “in the market for” a specific kind of player

Leeds Rhinos boss Rohan Smith has confirmed in recent weeks that the club will be losing Liam Tindall and Sam Walters in 2024.

Tindall is expected to join Hull FC and Walters is expected to join Wigan Warriors.

Smith though has a bigger emphasis on recruiting in Sam Walters’ position rather than Tindall’s.

He said the club are in the market for a “middle unit.”

“As far as middle unit players go, we’re certainly in the market for middle unit players ready to step straight into Super League next year in our academy program. I think that’s a pretty well-worn statement from most clubs.

“Everyone’s chasing big middles.”

Smith also gave a wider update on recruitment saying announcements will be made when there is something to announce and that he is focused on performances right now:

“Recruitment and retention is a daily process I think in every club and you know I understand there’s an appetite for media and fans to talk about who’s staying or who’s coming but I think we’ll provide updates when they’re there but otherwise you know I’m very very focused on trying to get some regular strong performances and we’ve had a few of late so trying to keep that ball rolling into St Helens this weekend.”
