The RFL have released their report for the year of 2022 and it’s led to some interesting findings regarding how the governing body have utilised finances across the sport.
The full report includes pieces from plenty of the sport’s biggest players including new CEO Tony Sutton, as well as detailing the year in full review.
Within that though are crucial figures such as the financial review and accounts section of the document, which has been made available to download and read via the RFL website.
Breaking it down into sectors including ‘Events’, ‘Restructuring’ and ‘Rugby League World Cup 2021’ it is a thorough review, but gives some telling insights.
It’s revealed that the 2022 Challenge Cup Final, held at Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium as opposed to Wembley, saw ‘ticketing revenue below expectations’ whilst a “significant cost was also absorbed to stage the mid-season international at Warrington”.
The RFL also saw a change in leadership last year with outgoing Chief Executive Officer Ralph Rimmer being replace by Tony Sutton.
Another key person to leave was Karen Moorhouse, Chief Regulatory Officer, and it’s now been revealed that the pair were renumerated to the value of £245,000.
That sees ‘director renumeration’ increase from £455,000 in 2021 to £787,000 in 2022 with the loss of office of both Rimmer and Moorhouse being attributed to £245,000.
The direct quote from the source material reads as follows:
“Director remuneration increased from £455k in 2021 to £787k in 2022. It should be noted that this total includes a provision of £245k for the compensation for loss of office for the former Chief Executive Officer and Chief Regulatory Officer.”
