Reported Hull FC target confirms he’s set to stay at current club

Yesterday, was a huge day for Hull FC recruitment wise.

The Black and Whites brought in three short term signings in Jack Walker, Josh Simm and Ellis Longstaff to ameliorate their current availability crisis.

But the big news was the confirmation of the worst kept secret in rugby league: that Jake Trueman will be a Hull FC player in 2023.

But who will partner him in the spine?

Both Luke Gale and Jake Connor are currently at the club and would work wonders alongside Trueman with Gale having played with Trueman before. However both have been linked with moves away with Gale tipped to retire by some and Connor courted by Canberra in the NRL.

Hull meanwhile have had an interest in Newcastle Knights pivot Tex Hoy but that fell through and it seems another potential target has gone the same way.

Reports from the Wide World of Sports‘ The Mole say that Hull FC made a huge offer for former Sydney halfback and current Canterbury man Kyle Flanagan who has long been pursued by Super League clubs most recently being linked with a move to Leeds when Gary Hetherington went to Australia in search of a new coach.

Happy at the Bulldogs and under former St Helens and Catalans boss Mick Potter he is starting to unearth some of the potential he burst onto the scene with, he has rejected what was reported to be a big offer.

Flanagan himself has seemingly confirmed this news in a bizarre way. He commented on Twitter that it “Couldn’t be further from the truth. Got you Canterbury Bulldogs.”

Whether this means the offer never happened or if it is just a strange mix up between Flanagan and The Mole – as the latter himself believed – is unclear but he seems set to remain with the Bulldogs.

Kyle Flanagan is on AUD450,000 for this season and next. The Dogs are looking for a new coach and have got a couple of gun players arriving for next season. There seems to be no sensible reason he would give up those prospects. Ask him again in twelve months time.
