Super League is awash with exciting outside backs who are walking highlight reels.
In one of the most difficult rankings of the year, here are our top five outside backs in Super League.
5. Mark Percival – St Helens
A five time Super League Champion and a key figure in a number of Grand Final wins including scoring brilliant tries in the 2019 and 2022 Grand Finals. He is a physical centre and often makes plenty of metres too and can create something special.
4. Harry Newman – Leeds Rhinos
Explosive and dynamic with a killer step and lightning speed, Harry Newman is one of the best players in Super League when fit and has every modern attribute you’d want from a player. Newman could very well be seen as the league’s best player when fit but he hasn’t been fit for long enough to verify that.
3. Tim Lafai – Salford Red Devils
When you can devastate the Champions by yourself who have been one of the best defensive sides in Super League history, you are something special. Lafai has power and a brilliant offload game which can tear teams apart.
2. Bevan French – Wigan Warriors
Lightning quick and elusive, Bevan French is unstoppable at times. Perhaps best at fullback, but on the wing last year he scored tries for fun including a record breaking seven in one game against Hull FC.
1. Tommy Makinson – St Helens
A try scoring sensation, a hard worker and a winger you can rely on when carrying the ball away from the other end of the field. He has been essential to St Helens’ dynasty and also was a hero when they won the Grand Final in 2014.
