Remarkably Super League and World Champions St Helens have lost the last two games which is certainly a surprise.
Many have pointed to the Champions’ unusual ill-discipline in their last two games against Leigh Leopards and Leeds Rhinos and Paul Wellens has addressed this as he spoke about the key yellow card to Matty Lees during the defeat to Leigh last night.
He said on Saints TV: “At the end, discipline again lets us down because there were a number of incidents and if we don’t learn and learn quick we will find ourselves in the same predicament moving forward.
“The Lees yellow card was a big moment in the game. Leesy is disappointed, as you would expect.
“The way he chases the kick is all the effort and energy you want in a player so I find it hard to be too critical in that sense but there is a line and that line was crossed again tonight.
“On a night like this when there is no screen or anything like that you can’t really see that much, I would have to look at it back.
“At this time I don’t really want to mention referees or their calls because that’s not going to help us win rugby games.”
It is vitally important now for the Saints to get back to their best and get their usual discipline back.
