NRL legend Paul Gallen wants fight against big name star saying he’d “smash” any current player

Paul Gallen will be best remembered fondly for finally helping Cronulla Sharks deliver the NRL to their deserving fans back in 2016 with a herculean effort to defeat the all conquering Melbourne Storm.

He was also a State of Origin hero and an Australian international but throughout his rugby career he was never one to back down.

Since then, Gallen has retired, become a terrific pundit but is not shy of the odd boxing match. Gallen has fought in 15 fights winning 12, seven of which have come by knockout. He has only lost once and has drawn.

His two defeat have come over the last year however with losses in June 2021 and May of this year but that hasn’t stopped him from shying away from another fight hoping to take on a current NRL star, a real enforcer at that saying he would “smash” any current NRL player.

He told Fox League down under: “I’ve got no issue fighting any current NRL player because there’s not a skerrick of doubt in my mind that I’ll smash every one of them.”

This comes just shy of the Origin Rumble headliner against Queensland favourites Justin Hodges and Ben Hannant promising he’ll knock both men out at the event: “If he enters the ring at 10pm, he’ll be unconscious by 10.02.”

However, despite having that on his mind, Gallen is still keen to take on a current player and believes finding an opponent will not be difficult: “Because I was a rugby league player for 20 years, I know what they’re like.

“You put a dollar in front of them, they’ll jump and I know I’ve got a reputation for being tight arse, too.

“But I can tell you all NRL players love money. So if they (No Limit) put the money up for a player to fight me I have no doubt somebody will jump at it, no doubt at all.

“They won’t struggle to find someone.”
