NRL forward heading for Super League following release

New Zealand Warriors have announced prop forward Chris Satae has left the club to take up a long-term contract in Super League.

The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with Hull FC for a number of weeks and the black and whites are expected to announce his signature shortly.

Satae has made 15 NRL appearances for the Warriors since his debut 2017 but has struggled for first-team action this season, predominantly playing in the Canterbury Cup.

He has been one of the best performing players in the reserve competition this season averaging more than 170 metres in his 14 appearances.

Speaking to the Vodafone Warriors’ website, general manager football Brian Smith said: “We’ve reluctantly agreed to Chris’ request for an early release.

“He was contracted until 2021 but he has received an opportunity in England for the rest of this season and then another four years. It gives Chris and his family tremendous security and we wouldn’t want to stand in his way.

“He has been really impressive for our Canterbury Cup side but has had limited chances to play for the NRL side due to the competition for places.

“We’re really happy for Chris, we thank him for everything he has done for the club and we wish him all the best for the future.”
