NRL clubs reportedly looking to poach Wigan Warriors star

A proven try scorer and versatile outside back, Wardle joined the Wigan Warriors in 2023 on a three-year deal.

Wardle came through Huddersfield’s Academy and made his debut for the Club in 2016. Wardle has played for both Huddersfield Giants and Warrington Wolves (loan) in Betfred Super League.

Halifax-born Wardle is an England international having made his try-scoring debut in a win over the Combined Nations All Stars in 2022. He has also represented England Knights’ on one occasion in a win over France in 2022.

Wardle made his Warriors debut in an Away loss to Hull KR on the opening day of the 2023 Super League. In his debut season with the Club, he went on to make 31 appearances in all competitions, scoring 16 tries.

The Centre was named in the Super League Dream Team for the first time in 2023.

Wardle lifted both the League Leaders’ Shield and Super League Trophy in 2023, as well as winning the Harry Sunderland trophy for Man of the Match in the 2023 Super League Grand Final.

NRL clubs gunning for Wigan Warriors centre

This would necessitate a release or some kind of transfer fee were Wigan to allow Wardle to go, like his brother, to the NRL.

According to the reports, there are several NRL clubs interested with the belief being that Wardle is good enough to slot into any backline in the NRL.

Wests Tigers were the last team to sign a Wigan Warriors centre drafting in Oliver Gildart at the end of 2021. Gildart is now back in Super League with Hull KR after a brief stint with Leigh Leopards.

Wardle’s brother Joe previously played for Newcastle Knights down under. He is currently at Oldham after leaving Leigh Leopards after a successful period at the Leigh Sports Village.

The question now is, will his younger brother follow his footsteps and head down under with interest also being present in Jai Field and Bevan French as well.
