More than just survival – Wakefield Trinity’s New Year’s Resolution

The new year is just days away and with it will come a new Super League season just seven weeks into the beginning of the latest chapter of human history.

A new year is a time when everyone looks to make a new start and make a change as they begin a new year.

This is why we get New Year’s Resolutions every year from so many people.

This desire for a new start shouldn’t be restricted to people though and could very well apply to Super League clubs.

So, what should Wakefield Trinity resolution be going into 2023?

It could be as simple as survival which is what they achieved the last two seasons, but Wakefield need to aim higher than that in 2023.

They showed encouraging signs in victory over Leeds Rhinos on Boxing Day and have an exciting young coach in Mark Applegarth.

Their four signings, Samisoni Langi, Kevin Proctor, Morgan Smith and Renouf Atoni, are also understated but impressive especially Atoni and former Warrington Wolves and Featherstone Rovers man Smith who starred on Boxing Day.

So, Wakefield should be gunning for the play-offs. It wouldn’t be a failure if they missed out on them, but they need to ensure they’re in the mix.
