Long-serving Halifax captain to leave

Long-serving Halifax captain Scott Murrell will join League One side Keighley Cougars ahead of the 2021 season.

Murell joined the club in 2013 from Hull KR, and had since scored 244 points, including 39 tries in over 200 appearances.

Halifax Head Coach Simon Grix said: “I’d just like to say a big thank you to Muzz for his help over the last 12 months through some challenging times and I wish him all the best as does everyone at the club.

“Muzza has an opportunity not only for a change but to begin a career outside of the game, after all he has a long time left to work yet. He will certainly be missed and will be welcome back anytime.”

Cougars Head Coach Rhys Lovegrove added: “Scott is an experienced campaigner that will add detail to our play on the field.

“Off the field, he has a very strong and energetic work ethic that will add a lot to the dressing room and develop our culture of success here at the club.

“He will also offer an experienced head in the sheds that will bring through our younger players and aid them with their own personal development.”
