Leigh Leopards set to sign Leeds Rhinos target

Lee Kershaw playing for Wakefield Trinity against Leeds Rhinos

Wakefield Trinity have let go of winger Lee Kershaw with the winger being linked with Leeds Rhinos.

However, despite training with the Rhinos this pre-season, he won’t be signing for the Rhinos but the winger is still set to sign for a Super League club.

One club that could make a move for Kershaw is the Leigh Leopards who have looked to increase their squad depth ahead of the new season and have already moved for Leeds Rhinos winger Derrell Olpherts.

Right now, their focus is signing Tristan Sailor but once done they could consider a move for Kershaw ahead of 2024.

The club have made an off field signing however welcoming Leigh Cables as kit sponsors for the 2024 season.

Specialist industrial cable manufacturer Leigh Cables will feature on the front of the shorts and will also sponsor club captain John Asiata.

Leigh Leopards COO Steve Kerr said: “In welcoming another Leigh business to our portfolio of sponsors, it’s very exciting to be working with Leigh Cables.

“They are another business with a unique specialism, demonstrating that Leigh has a wide variety and range of businesses in manufacturing right on our doorstep.

Mike Lowde, Managing Director (left of centre) with Alan Prescott (right of centre) & Wendy Lewis (front) visit the Leigh Leopards team in pre season.

The business already has a close connection with the great John Woods, who captained the club to the championship in 1982. So, it is fitting that they will sponsor John who captained the team to lift the Challenge Cup in 2023. I look forward to welcoming Leigh Cables as an official kit sponsor in 2024.

“It’s been a pleasure working with Managing Director Mike Lowde and I’m excited to help profile their business locally and connect them to other businesses and networks with whom we are involved.

“I’m particularly looking forward to welcoming Mike and the team to the Leopards Den to enjoy gameday and I know our fans will give our new sponsors a warm welcome.

“Leigh Cables are an innovative and forward-thinking company who supply cabling into numerous sectors ranging from oil and gas to automation, rail and metro and many more. I was particularly impressed to hear about their work in renewable energy and that they are offsetting their staffing carbon footprint.”

Leigh Cables Managing Director Mike Lowde said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to support our local team and the great work they do in the Leigh community. We wish the Leopards every success for their 2024 season.
