Leigh Leopards underlined their impressive recruitment for the 2024 Super League season with the arrival of NRL star Matt Moylan.
The club have made a number of signings from their Super League rivals such as the arrival of Owen Trout from Huddersfield Giants and Dan Norman from St Helens.
But have the Leopards placed a full stop on their recruitment for next year? We know they were interested in Derrell Olpherts earlier this year as his future at Leeds Rhinos came into question whilst players like Ryan Hampshire and Lee Kershaw could be available.
Derek Beaumont has confirmed on the club’s official website that recruitment is still going on alongside plenty of other elements.
“It’s majorly hard work, seriously. People talk about the off-season and think there’s nothing going on, and as a fan there’s not is there, and you’re left needing more. Even I am as a fan,” he said.
“But seriously the work that’s involved, there’s this membership element of it, the recruitment element of it is still going on. It just doesn’t stop, it doesn’t go away.
“The accounts, all this IMG stuff, all the RFL officiating stuff, finding the sponsors, signing the kit designs off and detailing them. It’s just endless and permanently happening.”
He went on to detail further his stance on recruitment: “My point in that is that it doesn’t matter how many new players you get, of course we want to keep progressing and build the squad and build underneath as well so as we progress and as we grow, it’s only them tweaks, or a couple of players coming off the end.
“You’ve always got to look to improve and that’s no disrespect to any players that have been here last year because they’ve done magnificent and the year before and many years before that.
“We’ve got new players coming in. The big headline people talk about will be Matt Moylan, for obvious reasons.”
This could mean that Moylan isn’t their last signing before the start of the new season. However, their squad is looking vert healthy at this point in time as we near 2024.
