Leeds Rhinos star controversially sin binned

Super League Disciplinary

Leeds Rhinos star signing Paul Momirovskii has been controversially sent to the sin bin.

After an incredibly long delay as the new bunker system assessed the tackle, the decision was made to sin bin Leeds’ new signing who was on debut tonight.

The centre was defending his own line and when Ryan Brierley passed it to Chris Atkin, he stepped in to make the tackle.

Atkin lost the ball and referee Aaron Moore gave the scrum but then came some long scrutiny of the tackle from Momirovski.

It took by my count seven looks for a decision to be reached with the officials under pressure due to the new rules but also an understanding that Momirovski had come in to make a tackle on someone who had the ball and didn’t seem to make contact with the head.

However, the fact that Atkin went off with for a Head Injury Assessment and the fact that his head did rock back from the contact led to the decision that the former Sydney Roosters and Penrith Panthers star Momirovski would spend 10 minutes in the bin.

The former NRL winner has become the seventh player shown a card in the 2024 Betfred Super League season.

In the big opener between Hull FC and Hull KR, Herman Ese’ese was the first player to feel the wrath of the new rules for a high shot when he was sin binned.

Then Franklin Pele felt the full force as he was sent off for a swinging arm. Ligi Sao was also sent off and Matt Parcell was sin binned.

In the game at Headingley, Ryan Brierley was sin binned for a high tackle on good friend Brodie Croft whilst over at the game between Leigh Leopards and Huddersfield Giants Ricky Leutele was win binned for a late hit.

Since Momirovski’s dismissal, Amir Bourouh of Salford became the eight player carded.
