Leeds Rhinos set to complete key re-signings

Leeds Rhinos are set to begin their march towards the 2024 Super League season as the Rhinos take on Wakefield on Boxing Day.

The Rhinos lost this festive friendly last year in a sign of things to come in what was a lukewarm season for the Rhinos but things are already looking up as we close in on 2024.

The fixture is reportedly set to draw a crowd of over 10,000 despite the cold and despite the time of year. This shows the optimism amongst the fans largely because of the business they have done.

In fact, Boxing Day’s Wetherby Whaler Festive Challenge will see Leeds showcase four new signings. Exciting new fullback and former Olympian Lachie Milner is set to start at fullback with another two members of their new look spine set to feature in the shape of Matt Frawley at seven and Andy Ackers at hooker.

The Rhinos are also set to give a debut to Mickael Goudemand as Cameron Smith makes his first appearance as Leeds Rhinos captain.

Leeds are also set to give debuts to young stars of the future such as the likes of the McCormack brothers who are very highly thought of.

There is a lot to be happy about at Headingley and even more good news as Serious About Rugby League understands that re-signings of key players are in the works and agreements are close.

Who these players are remains unclear but Leeds fans will certainly hope that Harry Newman is among them.

This does however mean that the Rhinos’ focus is presently on retentions and therefore not on recruitment so Leeds fans hoping to see Lee Kershaw sign for the club or indeed another new face will be disappointed.

It is likely that Leeds will stick with what they have for the new season though there is chance for movement in the new year.

Leeds could still offer a contract to rugby union prop Lewis Boyce who has been on trial with the club in recent weeks and months. Leeds can afford to give him a contract due to the fact he doesn’t count on the salary cap due to rules about rugby union converts.
