Leeds Rhinos reveal 2024 squad numbers with SIX new players in starting 13

Leeds Rhinos have revealed their squad numbers for the 2024 Super League season with wholesale changes made following an overhaul of the club’s spine for the new campaign.

New signings Lachie Miller (1), Paul Momirovski (4), Brodie Croft (6), Matt Frawley (7) and Andy Ackers (9) have all been included in the starting 13, with Tom Holroyd claiming the number 10 jersey.

Holroyd made his England debut last season and is the player who has made the biggest jump within the squad, having worn the number 18 shirt during the 2023 season in which he impressed throughout.

James McDonnell is the other player who has moved up having worn number 19 last season, with the former Wigan Warriors back-rower to wear number 16 for Rohan Smith’s side in 2024.

The Rhinos other two signings for next season, Mickael Goudemand, who arrives from Catalans Dragons, and Kieran Hudson, who recently signed from Castleford Tigers, will wear number 18 and 22 respectively.

Alfie Edgell and Tom Nicholson-Watton, who made their first-team debuts last season, have both been rewarded with squad numbers, with Edgell taking 29 and Nicholson-Watton to wear number 30.

The squad numbers could also be an indication that Leeds are no longer interested in signing Lee Kershaw from Wakefield Trinity, with the winger cited as a potential replacement for Derrell Olpherts.

Olpherts, who has dropped down to squad number 19 after a disappointing first season at Headingley, has been linked with a move to Leigh Leopards and Bradford Bulls.

Despite this, it’s believed Olpherts is keen on staying at Leeds to fight for his place, with first-choice wingers David Fusitu’a and Ash Handley both having their injury problems over recent seasons.

It remains to be season if Olpherts, who wore the number 16 shirt last season, takes offence to his demotion down to number 19, with doubt still surrounding his future for next season, with Rohan Smith still exploring his options in this area.
