Leeds Rhinos could be set for another major signing but there’s a twist

Leeds Rhinos head coach Rohan Smith

Leeds Rhinos could still be set to add to their squad ahead of the 2024 season but it comes with a caveat.

The Rhinos have made a number of big signings ahead of the new season already. They have drafted in a new spine with the likes of Lachie Miller, Matt Frawley and Salford Red Devils duo Brodie Croft and Andy Ackers.

They have also added centre Paul Momirovski and forwards Mickael Goudemand and Kieran Hudson.

They have been linked with a move for Lee Kershaw but this has faded away.

So what other recruitment could we see from the Rhinos? Serious About Rugby League can reveal that the Rhinos are operating a one in and one out recruitment principle. This means that if they were to sign Kershaw this would require a departure with Derrell Olpherts linked with a move away from to Leigh Leopards in the past.

If Olpherts were to leave that would lead to a move for Kershaw. So, Leeds could make more moves and may very well be interested in further transfers but require exits to ensure their success.

The Rhinos have developed a number of impressive sponsorship deals to help finance transfers this year and have extended their partnership with SMUK for a 10th year.

Leeds Rhinos Commercial Director Rob Oates commented, “It has been a remarkable decade of unwavering commitment as a leading sponsor of Leeds Rhinos.”

Oates added, “We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate this monumental milestone of our 10-year partnership with SM UK. Over the past decade, SM UK’s Chairman Steve MacDonald has been far more than just a sponsor; he has been an integral part of our rugby family. Their unwavering support has played a pivotal role in our journey and fuelling our ambitions.”

The Chairman of SM UK Steve MacDonald stated, “Over the past ten years, our partnership with the Leeds Rhinos has not only been a sponsorship but a true alliance that embodies our shared values and unwavering commitment to Rugby League.

“SM UK are delighted to continue our support for the Leeds Rhinos and we are looking forward to the next decade of teamwork, passion, and excellence, and to many more years of shared triumphs and memorable moments on and off the field.”

A decade of sponsorship with the Leeds Rhinos symbolises a remarkable journey and reflects a shared commitment to rugby, community, and excellence. As Leeds Rhinos looks forward to the future, this enduring partnership is poised to continue making a significant impact on the sport, its supporters, and the broader community.
