Kevin Sinfield set for another challenge despite reportedly being denied knighthood

Leeds Rhinos legend Kevin Sinfield has raised another £1 million in the fight against Motor Neurone Disease alongside good friend and former teammate Rob Burrow who was diagnosed back in 2019.

This time Sinfield’s challenge was called 7 in 7 in 7 and again saw Sinfield smash the £1 million marker having targeted £777,777.77

This takes Sinfield’s overall fundraising tally for the fight against MND over £9 million which is why Sinfield has again been included in the New Year’s Honours list alongside Burrow.

However, to the dismay of many, it appears that Sinfield and Burrow are only likely to receive CBE’s as per the Sunday Express and not a knighthood.

However, recognition is not why Sinfield does it and he is already planning on another challenge in 2024 as he said on BBC.

Speaking on BBC Breakfast: “My body’s alright, so we’ll take a bit of time to reflect, but there is the possibility of doing another one.

“It’s been worth every step. I think we’re about £9 million now with some of the Gift Aid. People in the UK and Ireland care about people with MND, and it’s all in Rob’s name.

“It’s massively humbling, because you think we set out just over three years ago doing seven marathons for a mate and there were six of us.

“Suddenly, I’ve met all of these amazing people who have been challenged by MND – their families, their friends and their support.

“Add to that the work that you guys have done and the support you’ve shown, it’s all been a massive team effort.

“Logistically this time, it’s been much bigger than we’ve ever done before, and there’s not an events team behind this, it’s put together by a group of friends.

“There are a couple of guys who run with me – Chris and Dave – and then we’ve got the bikers including my good friend Daryl who’s been there with me every challenge and every dark moment at 5am in Saddleworth.

“It’s an unbelievable team, we came together again on Friday morning and it was seamless, and that’s what good teams do. I can’t do it without them, they’ve been great.”
