Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow could reportedly miss out on knighthoods again

Leeds Rhinos legends Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield are set to be included in the New Year’s Honours list.

Burrow is already an MBE for his battle with Motor Neurone Disease and his terrific raising awareness, whilst Sinfield was awarded an MBE for his services to rugby league prior to an OBE for his fundraising, which has since surpassed the £8 million marker in total.

The two have been truly inspiring and are set to both be recognised in His Majesty King Charles III’s New Year’s Honours list.

Many will be hoping they are knighted but according to the Sunday Express they are to become Commanders of the British Empire. This means they will be awarded a CBE which is the highest honour one can receive without receiving a knighthood. However, if there has been a miscommunication and the pair are being given a Knight Commander of the British Empire (known as a KBE) then they will be knighted as Sir Kevin and Sir Rob. We all hope this is what transpires.

The fundraising for Kevin Sinfield’s latest challenge the 7 in 7 in 7 Challenge has gone through £1 million after incredible support from the public just over a week since the former Rhinos skipper completed his challenge in London.

Sinfield and his team completed seven ultra marathons in seven days in seven cities between 1st December 2023 and 7th December 2023, starting in Leeds before heading on to Cardiff, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Dublin, Brighton and London.

A limited number of Kevin’s replica running t-shirts and vests are still available but act quick to avoid disappointment if you want to secure a limited edition special Christmas present. You can buy now by clicking here.

The 7 in 7 in 7 Challenge will support five charities which support and care for people affected by MND and their families, and invest in research to bring us closer to effective treatments and a cure for the disease.  The main beneficiaries will be the MND Association and Leeds Hospitals Charity’s appeal to build the Rob Burrow Centre for MND in Leeds. However, there will also be donations to My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, the Irish MND Association and the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation plus support for the 4ED campaign to support former Gloucester and Leicester Rugby Union player Ed Slater.
