Jon Wilkin has brutal say on Castleford Tigers

For the first time since 2006, Castleford Tigers were well and truly dragged into a relegation scrap in 2023.

Now the question is will 2024 be any different or will the Tigers continue to struggle? The club are on the cusp of a new era with stadium redevelopment set to take place and a new investor.

In terms of recruitment though, they have taken an interesting approach signing young and in some cases unknown players.

The Tigers have higher potential in their squad by Jon Wilkin brutally said there is no signing that he deems notable at the Tigers on Sky Sports: “Yeah, I mean I could be disingenuous and stand here and say I looked down and I was excited by anything that they’ve signed. I’m not, nor am I too concerned by what they’ve lost. Greg Eden and Gareth Widdop have moved on to Halifax.”

However, there was one new arrival Wilkin is excited about and that is the arrival of Leeds Rhinos legend and former Hull KR assistant Danny McGuire.

Wilkin said: “I think Castleford are in a holding pattern. Look, do you know the one shining piece of news for them? Danny Maguire. And it blows my mind, Danny Maguire left Hull KR to join Castleford. And there’s a story there that nobody has talked about, nobody knows, but a great piece of recruitment for Castleford. The key for them this year, I believe is in coaching.

“And maybe with Danny McGuire on board, he can really develop some of their youth players.

“Okay, he’ll be alongside Craig Lingard, who takes charge of the Super League side for the first time. They will start against the champions, Wigan. And that is on Saturday evening on Sky Sports.”

The Tigers have the difficult task of hosting Champions Wigan Warriors in Round One making history in the first game on BBC Two.
