John Bateman launches incredible initiative

John Bateman is doing all he can to help friend Matthew Luke Keenan who sadly passed away recently.

The Wigan forward is auctioning his match-worn home shirt with all proceeds going to Matthew’s three children.

Bateman explained how he wore the shirt when the Warriors took on Salford on Friday 6 August at the DW Stadium, with the shirt being embroidered with “Matthew Luke Keenan YNWA”.

For all non-football fans out there, YNWA is the phrase that is synonymous with Liverpool FC, meaning “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.

Bateman has also expressed his willingness to sign the shirt or place a personalised message if the buyer is interested.

The Wigan forward rejoined the Lancashire club ahead of the 2021 season after two years in the NRL with Canberra Raiders, where he helped them get to a Grand Final.
