Ian Watson makes Will Pryce decision for Challenge Cup Final

As with Wigan, a lot of focus in the build up to today’s Challenge Cup Final centred around the halfbacks for Huddersfield.

The loss of Theo Fages was a major blow given his big game experience whilst there was a worry that Oliver Russell would miss out due to a hamstring injury sustained last week against Toulouse.

That would have seen Will Pryce come into the halves having not played in nearly three months owing to a 10-match ban picked up in the league against Hull FC.

However, yesterday it seemed that Russell would be fit for today’s game after coming through the team run unscathed with Watson confirming that Jack Cogger would partner him in the halves. This led many to speculate that Pryce may figure on the bench as an impact sub however he misses out as Ashton Golding makes a first final appearance of his career from the bench likely set to cover Danny Levi at nine.

Watson is not alone in his bold choice on the bench with Matt Peet also making a big call including skipper Thomas Leuluai on the bench dropping both Joe Shorrocks and Oliver Partington.
