“I feel sick” – Wakefield Trinity fans heart broken after relegation

Hull KR signing Kelepi Tanginoa

It’s been a rollercoaster season but tonight confirmed that Wakefield Trinity would be relegated from Super League ending their 25 year stay in the sport’s top flight, with Trinity falling 20-19 to Leigh Leopards after golden point.

Heading into the evening it was a case of Wakefield needing two wins from two and hoping that Castleford didn’t win either of their remaining two fixtures, the pair being separated by four points and minimal points difference.

Castleford’s clash with Wigan finished earlier than the events at the Leigh Sports Village and their 48-6 hammering left them vulnerable should Wakefield manage the miraculous victory.

The Tigers heavy defeat saw Wigan score 10 tries with Lebanese winger Abbas Miski scoring five of them himself, taking him to top of the Super League try scoring charts.

Meanwhile the action at the LSV saw Wakefield come back from 16-6 down to tie the game up at 16-16, before the match eventually went to golden point at 19-19.

With the game closing in on a draw Leigh kicked the drop goal to end Wakefield’s stay in Super League, a cruel way for Trinity to lose after having missed multiple drop goals themselves.

Fans of both Wakefield, Castleford and neutrals from across Super League have taken to social media to react to the dramatic fashion in which Trinity got relegated.

Among those who did react were Leigh themselves who cheekily made reference to how they’d helped out Castleford Tigers.

However, Castleford Tigers fans, and even the club themselves, were quick to share their joy at the result at the Leigh Sports Village:
