Three clubs who could sign Ricky Leutele for 2025

Ricky Leutele

Contract talk is always a big part of the Rugby League world, but especially in this second half of the season. and Ricky Leutele is among the biggest off-contract names meaning he’ll be at the centre of plenty of discussions.

With the May 1st deadline already behind us, players from across the league without contracts are free to discuss possible moves to other Super League sides.

In the past month alone, we have seen some huge transfers. Leigh Leopards captain John Asiata has penned a three-year deal to join Hull FC, but elsewhere there are still some big names being churned around in the rumour mill.

One of those names is Leigh Leopards centre Ricky Leutele. Since arriving at the Leigh Sports Village, he has quickly become one of their main attacking threats. In the early part of the season in particular, his combination with Josh Charnley became Leigh’s key weapon, and it boosted the profile of both the players themselves and the club on the whole. A spine injury ended his season prematurely, but he has returned in fine form this season.

So far this season, he has notched five tries for the Leopards; which has overtaken his tally for the whole of last season already (4).  Despite his importance to the Leopards, the former Huddersfield, Toronto, Melbourne and Cronulla centre is out of contract with the current Challenge Cup holders, and could be set to leave the club after two seasons. That’s almost certain after his name was featured on the list of players who haven’t had a new deal offered to them.

But which teams will make a play for him? Here are three potential destinations for Ricky Leutele.

Three clubs who could sign Ricky Leutele for 2025

Huddersfield Giants

Could Leutele return to the John Smith’s Stadium? Ian Watson’s side could potentially lose Kevin Naiqama next season, with the experienced Fijian also without a deal for 2025 as of yet, and Leutele could be a great replacement. The move could suit both parties too, with Leutele already knowing the club from his previous two-year stint. Ian Watson is also very fond of the former Samoan international, so he could try and push to bring his back to West Yorkshire. Leutele would also bring bags of experience to the squad in the same vain as Naiqama

Hull FC

It seems the whole of Leigh is going to Hull FC, so why not Leutele? But in all seriousness, Hull FC are in need of an experienced centre to go alongside Liam Sutcliffe, and with Carlos Tuimavave set to leave the MKM Stadium too it could be a good move. Leutele’s current partner Zak Hardaker is also linked with a move to West Hull, but there’s no reason Leutele couldn’t join him in swapping leopard print for balck and white.

St Helens

In a similar note to Huddersfield, there could be a centre spot free at the Totally Wicked Stadium next season. Konrad Hurrell has hit really good form of late, however the Tongan powerhouse is still out of contract from next season, and with no current deal in place they could be looking to bring in a player of Leutele’s quality. He would also add plenty of experience to an already decorated team, which could keep them in the hunt for silverware next season.
