Hull KR facing massive problem ahead of 2024 campaign

Hull KR head coach Willie Peters

Hull KR are set for a big season in 2024 after a real coming of age campaign in 2023.

The Robins equalled their best Super League finish of fourth which they achieved in 2009. They pipped Leigh Leopards to fourth in the final game of the season as they secured home advantage against Leigh.

They won and advanced to their second ever Super League semi-final after playing and losing in 2021. The result was no different this time. The Robins had better success in the Challenge Cup semi-final against Wigan Warriors advancing to Wembley but lost to Leigh in the decider.

After some big signings for the club ahead of next year, expectations are really high but the club have a real problem.

The retirement of Lachlan Coote and the exit of Brad Schneider as well as the injury record of Jordan Abdull has meant that they have no ideal kicker for the new year which is why they are focusing on this in pre-season.

Willie Peters is on top of things going into next year with Peters hoping to have a versatile squad:

“Yeah, definitely. Like today, for example, Peta started at one and then we moved Niall there at stages of the session, and we’ll do the same with Tom Opacic. He’ll have some time on the wing.

“II think it’s important that you’ve got a bit of flexibility. Just how the season went last year, being able to move players around and just seeing when you put a squad together, what does the best team look like and then who you’re playing against, what does that team look like.

“So it’s always good to have that flexibility and I think it’ll help us going forward, there’s no doubt about that. Niall Evalds is a fullback, I understand that, before he’s a winger, but we did sign Peta as a fullback and I wanted to get Niall in the squad as well.

“I think he’s a very good player. So he’ll spend time at fullback at some stage, whether that’s within a game or whether he plays full games there, but he’ll definitely play there at some stage.”
