Hull KR confirm squad numbers for 2024 leaving one shirt vacant for possible signing

Hull KR have had a busy week with the side heading out on a warm weather training camp and now they’ve confirmed their squad numbers for 2024.

The Robins have made plenty of big additions this off-season, whilst also losing star players such as Jordan Abdull (loan to Catalans Dragons) and the retiring duo of Shaun Kenny-Dowall and Kane Linnett.

Earlier this week the club confirmed the signing of winger Joe Burgess following the 29-year-old’s release from Salford Red Devils, the ex-Wigan man becoming Rovers’ eighth recruit this off-season.

From those eight there are three signings granted starting numbers with those three players forming the majority of the Robins’ back-line. Ex-Warrington Wolves man Peta Hiku takes the number one shirt, winger Niall Evalds takes number two and Oliver Gildart takes four.

Ex-Wakefield Trinity due Jai Whitbread and Kelepi Tanginoa have been given the 16 and 20 shirts, whilst star signing Tyrone May from Catalans Dragons takes the number 27.

Jordan Abdull’s loan move to Catalans has seen young Englishman Mikey Lewis take the vacant number seven shirt, whilst newly-appointed club captain Elliot Minchella retains his 13 shirt.

Rovers confirmed their full squad with a statement via their website reading:  “Hull KR are delighted to confirm its First Team squad numbers for the 2024 Betfred Super League season.

“In a new-look Robins’ backline, Peta Hiku has been given the No.1 jersey following his off-season move from North Queensland Cowboys.

“Super League Grand Finalist, Niall Evalds takes No.2 while Oliver Gildart takes the club’s No.4. Both Tom Opacic and Ryan Hall retain their No.3 and No.5 squad numbers, respectively.

“Hull KR’s No.6 jersey remains retired for club legend, Roger Millward MBE. Millward made 406 appearances for the Robins, scoring 207 tries and kicking 607 goals during his time in East Hull. ‘Roger the Dodger’ helped the side to five major trophies during his time as a Player and Coach.

“Mikey Lewis receives the No.7 on the back of an exciting 2023, having helped the Robins to Wembley and debuted for England Rugby League, firing the Lions to a series win over Tonga.

“There’s a change in the Robins’ front-row for 2024 as Jez Litten becomes the club’s new No.9. Last season, the Hull-born hooker made his England debut against France in April and was a standout for Hull KR, playing in 31 out of 33 games for the Red and Whites.

“Sauaso ‘Jesse’ Sue and George King retain the No.8 and No.10 jerseys while Dean Hadley and James Batchelor become the Robins’ new No.11 and No.12. Hull KR Captain, Elliot Minchella retains the No.13 jersey.

“Matt Parcell moves to No.14 this year while Sam Luckley moves up to No.15 after establishing himself as a crowd favourite in 2023. Next up, Jai Whitbread takes the No.16 followed by Matty Storton who retains the No.17 after a positive 2023 season.

“The No.18 remains vacant while young forward, Yusuf Aydin and new signing, Kelepi Tanginoa receive No.19 and No.20, respectively.

“After joining the club mid-season in 2023, Corey Hall takes the leap from No.33 to No.21. Young utility back, Phoenix Laulu-Togaga’e receives the No.22 and Louis Senior retains the No.23 following a promising debut season in 2023.

“Reiss Butterworth takes the No.24 for 2024 having joined the club from newly- promoted Championship side, Dewsbury Rams. Former Hull KR Academy Captain, Harvey Moore takes the No. 25 as he returns to full fitness from a serious knee injury sustained at the end of 2022.

“Young back-rower, AJ Wallace wears No.26 this season following his end of season move to Hull KR from Bradford Bulls. NRL Grand Final winner, Tyrone May takes the No.27 as he prepares for his first season with the Robins.

“For the club’s Academy Graduates, Zach Fishwick moves up to No.28 for 2024 while Louix Gorman, Leo Tennison, Lennie Ellis take No.29 through to No.31, respectively.

“Connor Barley retains the No.32 and Harvey Horne receives No.33 as his first official squad number. England Academy International, Neil Tchamambe receives the No.34 following his move from Leeds Rhinos in the off-season. Finally, our newest Robin, Joe Burgess receives the No.35 following his move from Salford Red Devils earlier this week.”
